Lesson Plan – Canadian Heroes

Aim 

To explore and learn more about Canadian soldiers, their role in the liberation of the Netherlands, and how it impacted the citizens of both countries.

Grade Level

This activity is designed for grade 9 or 10 Canadian History Courses, as a part of the Second World War Unit. This course material can be modified to work with other courses or units. 

Objectives

  • Students will read the stories of 6 specific Canadian war heroes.
  • Students will discuss the impact of these Canadians on the people of the Netherlands.
  • Students will develop a greater understanding of the impact of war on the Dutch and Canadian people in the Netherlands.

Activities and Timelines

  • Introduction and discussion: 10 minutes
  • Reading stories and Worksheets: 45 minutes
  • Discussion: 20 minutes

  • 6 Canadian War Hero Stories. Stories can be printed and read or listened to on videos
