Lesson Plan – The Gift of Tulips

Aim 

For students to explore and learn about the lifecycle of a tulip, how to plant one, and why it is such an important flower to Canadians. 

Grade Level

This lesson was designed for science students in Grade 2 and 3. Can be modified for different grade levels. 

Objectives

  • Students will learn about the life cycle of the tulip.
  • Students will learn how to plant a tulip.
  • Students will explore the history of the tulip and why they are significant to Canadians. 

Activities and Timelines

  • Introduction and discussion: 20 minutes
  • Video (optional): 5 minutes
  • “The Little Bulb” Story (optional): 5 minutes
  • Worksheet game and colouring sheet: 30 minutes
  • Wrap up discussion: 10 minutes
