My father crossed over to France in July of 1944 as a tank commander. He was present at the battle for Caen, and Falaise Gap. He continued north through Belgium and Holland. In January of 1945, he transferred to the XII Manitoba Dragoons, commanding B squadron. He was part of the Canadian troops who liberated Leeuwarden. He was stationed there until his release in March of 1946.
