We lived in the Netherlands and during the war my dad served in the army while my mom took care of us 3 children. They shared a lot of stories about this time and one thing they mentioned is how the food was so scarce that they actually ate tulip bulbs in order to survive. Also about the excitement & happiness they experienced when Canadian soldiers were walking down the streets during the liberation and the soldiers were very friendly and handing out candy to all the children. They were so grateful for Canadas help that their first thought was to immigrate to Canada to live among these wonderful people. From their daughter: Margje Jackson (nee de Wilde)
