My father. Andre E. Gadbois enlisted in the Canadian Army (Artillery) in 1941 in Montreal. He trained as an officer and served across Canada – Ontario and British Columbia for a few years. He left for England from Windsor, Nova Scotia aboard the S.S.Bayano in 1944. From England, they sailed south through the Mediterranean to Italy (Eboli,,Dec.1944).
After a few months in Italy, they sailed on S.S. Richardson up to Marseilles, then made their way up by rail through France, Belgium and then Holland(April, 1945).
He was there at Liberation, and returned to Canada, via England, on the HMTS Nieuw Amsterdam end of September, 1945.
We are very proud of Dad and grateful for his service.
