I planted tulips for Lt. Herb Croome who was killed on May 1 1945 in NW Germany en route to Oldenburg after being awarded a Canadian military cross for action in Holland during liberation. He was my uncle. He is buried at Holten cemetery. Also, I bought the tulips last fall to honour my father-in-law Harvey Firestone who was shot down in Norway on September 26, 1944, and was rescued by the Norwegian resistance and returned to England after 12 days. He died last November at 97. Our family was able to travel to Bergen and Os, Norway to take part in a 75th anniversary event for the aircrew and their helpers. Fifty Canadian descendants and more than 300 Norwegians were in attendance the 1st week of October 2019. I planted the tulips on Thanksgiving weekend.
