Owen Sound planting tulips for 75th anniversary of liberation of The Netherlands

Leo Haak was just six years old when his home country of the Netherlands was liberated from Nazi German control at the end of the Second World War.

The 80-year-old Owen Sound resident’s daughter, Monica Brown, said those Canadian-led efforts 74 years ago to free the country following a brutal five-year occupation left a lasting impression on her father.

“He has always shown gratitude towards the Canadian soldiers that came over. It’s always meant a lot to him,” she said in a recent interview.
