Pieter’s father, Simon, was a resistance fighter during WWII, was enslaved by the nazis and did not survive to raise his only son. My father, as a small child, remembers the liberators, the Canadian soldiers who marched through their town in Holland. Because of the kindness of Canadian soldiers, our whole family immigrated to Canada in 1978. He would not be here today had it not been for the brave soldiers who fought for his freedom, and none of his three children, and five grandchildren would be here either. We live on and pay tribute every November 11th.
