My father Henk Vanderwal and his friend Dirk Devries were resistance fighters who survived and escaped 2 different concentration camps, 2 years in each. (Natzweiler-Struthof in Strasbourg and Mittelbau-Dora in Nordhausen). II am named after Dirk and his son is named after my father. Picture is of our two fathers in Amsterdam on Dam Square 1947 and us, their two sons, in same spot 71 years later.
