Theme Days

May 11 - Netherlands Day

Suitably on opening day of the festival we give a nod to the nation whose gift of tulips, symbolic of friendship and peace, inspired our Capital tulip culture and the creation of the festival in 1953. The Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands joins other dignitaries for our Official Opening Ceremony at Aberdeen Pavilion at 10:30 am. Special activities taking place throughout the festival kick off today at Commissioner's Park.


 

May 12 - Turkish Day

Presented by OZ OPTICS

Turkey- The tulip's country of origin and home of the World Famous Istanbul Tulip Festival, takes center stage with a photography and art exhibit, cultural displays and live performances.

 

May 13 - China Day

A salute to the wonderful tulip festivals in China, enjoy Chinese cultural displays and performances on stage From noon to 5 pm in Aberdeen Pavillion. Special announcement about the Festival's 2019 theme to take place at 1 pm on the Rideau Carleton Raceway Friendship Stage

 

May 15 - Veterans Day

presented by Beechwood, The Jewel, Ottawa Citizen

Veterans and their families enjoy free entry with a special ceremony dedicated to their service to our country taking place in Aberdeen Pavilion at Lansdowne Park at 11 am. Special displays by military organizations and musical entertainment provided by Music & Beyond.

 

May 16 - Seniors Day

presented by Tea and Toast & The Jewel

Free admission for Seniors (OC Transpo is also FREE) - Ottawa Community Concert Band and Legacy Brass Band perform in Aberdeen Pavilion. Enjoy some yummy refreshments and with folks from CARP and Zoomer Magazine.

 

May 18 - Education Day

"A special day of discovery and action-packed fun at The Canadian Tulip Festival. Students will learn about local history, the environment, maypole tradition, floral design, arts & crafts, construction, coin making, etc and more! Presentations and workshops on Education Day offer a range of activities from preschool to grades 1 - 6. Homeschoolers and parents with children on this PD Day are welcome too."

 

May 20 - India Day

Presented by The Great India Festival

A salute to our friends at the Kashmir Tulip Festival enjoy cultural displays and performances programmed by the Great India Festival - from 10 to 4 in Aberdeen Pavilion.
