Ottawa, Ontario, October 2, 2017: The Canadian Tulip Festival in collaboration with the Canadian Tulip Legacy Inc. and its partners play host to more than 25 international delegates representing 10 countries at the 7th Annual World Tulip Summit taking place at the Westin Hotel October 5 to 7, 2017. The Summit is a bi-annual meeting of the world’s tulip community to celebrate the tulip as a symbol of international friendship and peace. This year marks the 15th anniversary of the first Tulip Summit held in Ottawa in 2002. With it also being this country’s 150th Birthday and the Festival’s 65th Anniversary, the theme of the Summit is aptly chosen: “Celebrating Tulip Traditions and Initiatives”.
The Ottawa World Tulip Summit offers a three-day program with invited speakers from around the world discussing how the tulip is celebrated in their community as well as the impact this flower has had on the former. Presenters at the Summit include Luc Behar of Disneyland Paris, Javed Shah of India’s Kashmir Tulip Festival, American Paula Savage with the International Peace Garden, the Netherlands’ Ibo Gülsen exploring Flowerparks – new models to develop attractive tourism destinations; Adrian Jansen, Springfields Horticultural Society with his talk on “A Resume of Tulips in The UK” as well as the Japanese presentation “Tonami Tulip Fair - From Floating Tulips to a 365 Day Tulip Display”; and Jason Michelin from Canada presenting “Now You Can...Tiptoe Through the Tulips Anytime – Tulip Crush World Championship”, among other preeminent speakers.
“We are very happy to see the World Tulip Summit return to Canada after travelling to Australia, UK, USA, Turkey, South Korea. This Summit is all about bringing together world tulip leaders to share and be inspired to celebrate the tulip as a symbol of friendship and peace. Hosting the World Tulip Summit reminds us that we are the Tulip Capital of Canada and home base for the World Tulip Summit Society.” Michel Gauthier, Executive Director, Canadian Tulip Festival and Chair, World Tulip Summit Society.
Through the exchange of information and sharing of tulip-centric events including the much anticipated World Friendship Tulip Garden Planting Ceremony at Commissioners Park as well as the Order of the Tulip Luncheon and the Canadian Tulip Festival’s inaugural TULIP SOIREE & TULIP AWARDS 2017, the tulip serves to strengthen international goodwill among all participating countries at the Summit.
