Project ’44: The Road to Liberation

Project ’44 is the online web map that allows Canadians to explore their family’s military history. With over 65,000-unit positions and 7000 pages of war diaries, Canadians can explore the Second World War in a way that has never been possible.

Click the button below to access the map. Once there, you can use the date slider in the bottom left corner to track the progress of the allied troops (highlighted in red). If you click on a troop marker, you can read the war diaries for that troop for that day and view pictures. If you know which troop a family member was in, you can locate that troop and follow their road to liberation. Additional questions may be submitted directly to Project ’44 and their team.

In Partnership With

Canadian Research and Mapping Association (CMRA)

The Canadian Research and Mapping Association is a not for profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Canada’s military history. For two and half years the CRMA has been mapping the story of the Canadian Army for the exciting Project ’44 web map, and has been working with partners across Canada to tell engaging stories through online story maps. You can find out more about the CRMA by going to www.crma-acrc.ca
