Explore Ottawa’s Greenspace

This year the Canadian Tulip Festival is expanding! Explore far more than Commissioners Park. Just a short walk away, discover the hidden green gem of Downtown Ottawa.

Visit the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum located at Ottawa’s Central Experimental Farm. Tracing it’s roots back to 1886, it’s the world’s only working farm in the heart of a capital city! Experience programs and exhibits on agricultural heritage, food literacy, the future of farming, and so much more – and learn how all of it can impact Canadians’ everyday lives. And, of course, make sure to stop and say ‘hi’ to all the adorable farm animals.

Take the beautiful 20-minute walk from the Festival Site in Commissioners Park, through the Ornamental Gardens and Dominion Arboretum, then through the spring blossoms of the Lilac Walk to find the Farm. The walk alone is reason enough to visit.

To learn more, visit the Central Experimental Farm website at www.friendsofthefarm.ca.

Canada Agriculture and Food Museum

Located on a national heritage site, the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum is the world’s only working farm in the heart of a capital city.

The museum offers visitors a unique opportunity to see diverse breeds of farm animals—important to past and present Canadian agriculture—and to learn about the food they eat. In addition to breeds common to Canadian agriculture, such as Holstein dairy cows and Angus beef cows, the museum also has Canadienne and Milking Shorthorn dairy cows, and Tamworth pigs. Many other breeds of dairy and beef cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, poultry, goats, rabbits and even honeybees round out the collection.
