Did you know that in Canada, we lose about 838 hockey rinks’ worth of our best farmland every day? Or that one teaspoon of healthy soil can contain more organisms than there are people on Earth?

Find out about the fragile world beneath our feet at the Soil Lab, a unique space for learning and exploring at the Canada Agriculture and Food Museum!

Learn why soil is such an important resource and find out what farmers do to take care of it.

Take the time to explore on your own…Bet you’ll never look at soil the same way again!

Put on your lab coat and use real soil science instruments to explore the chemical, physical and biological properties of soils. Participate in experiments to learn why soil is such an important resource and find out what farmers do to take care of it. Get your hands dirty by helping to plant and take care of the Museum’s garden or by digging into a fresh scoop of active vermicompost!

Join us for daily demos, or take the time to explore on your own…Bet you’ll never look at soil the same way again!

This Discovery Zone is open 9:00am to 5:00pm, 7 days a week and is included with museum admission.
