Photo Exhibition – The Story of the Tulip – (Istanbul 2017)

Presented by OZ Optics

May 11-21 10 am - 5 pm

Tulips originated in Turkey  – Not Holland!

Tulips have a significant place in Turkish culture and since the 12th century, they have been widely used in Turkish and Islamic arts.  The flower’s popularity peaked  in the 18th century with the newfound interest of the Ottoman elite in the flower that coined the phrase “Tulip Era.”   Today the tulip is embraced as the flower that blankets many Turkish cities – not just Istanbul –  where the world’s largest living tulip carpet is created annually as the centrepiece  feature of the Istanbul Tulip Festival.

This spectacular exhibition curated for the 2017 Istanbul Tulip Festival tells the story of the Tulip  through the ages.
